Relax. Even before the arrival.

No other model within this segment currently provides as many driver assistance systems as the Audi Q7. Some of them are standard equipment, and optional solutions are available either individually or in the packages City, Parking and Tour. In the Tour package, MMI navigation plus is connected to MMI touch.

The standard Driver Information System already includes the break recommendation, which analyzes driving behavior and warns the driver when clues suggest that the concentration of the driver is failing. Other standard amenities are the start assist, cruise control, adjustable speed limitation device, parking aid and the security systems Audi pre sense basic and Audi pre sense city.

The City Assistance Package

Audi side assist
The lane change assistant, Audi side assist (also available separately), is a system included in the City assistance package. It supports the driver when changing lanes at a speed of above 15 km / h, using two rear radar sensors which are able to measure approximately 70 metres.

If another vehicle is moving in the blind spot or approaching rapidly, a warning LED will light up in the casing of the relevant exterior mirror. If the driver nevertheless activates the turn signal, the LED will flash several times in quick succession.

The Audi side assist is connected to the system Audi pre sense rear, which initiates protective measures to prevent an imminent rear-end collision. The Audi pre sense rear is also active in the background when using Audi side assist, with the exception of the trailer operation.
Intersection Assistant
With the aid of rear radar sensors, the intersection assistant warns the driver of any critically identified vehicles ahead when reversing slowly, for example when exiting a perpendicular parking space. The indication is given on a sliding scale - visually on the MMI monitor, acoustically and also optionally via a warning jolt.
Exit warning
The exit warning comes into play as soon as the Audi Q7 has stopped. If vehicles and bicycles are then approaching from behind, the exit warning warns the driver and all passengers when opening the door. The system uses the LED light guide from the light package in the doors to give this warning - the high power LEDs flicker in red if a dangerous situation is detected. After switching off the ignition, the exit warning remains on standby for about three minutes.

The trailer assistant
When the new Audi Q7 serves as a towing vehicle, the driver can activate the trailer assistant when maneuvering in reverse. He has to then simply select driving position R and cautiously apply engine power. He then enters the angle at which he wants to reverse with the rotary control / push button in continuous MMI. If he wants to drive straight, he taps on the controller once. The image of the rear view camera on the MMI monitor shows him a supporting line as orientation. The trailer assistant turns the steering wheel and directs the trailer stable on the chosen course, therefore the driver steers the entire car/trailer combination with the rotary / push-button control of MMI.

The technical basis of the trailer assistant is a rotatable sensor in the trailer hitch - it detects the bending angle between the towing vehicle and trailer. The driver should familiarize himself briefly with the system briefly before use by driving a few metres with the trailer. The trailer assistant allows a speed of up to ten km / h. If the bending angle is too wide, the system will give a warning and brakes in an emergency.
Two other systems complete the City assistance package - the acoustic and visual parking system plus and the reversing camera. Both are also available separately.

Tour Assistance Package

adaptive cruise control
The adaptive cruise control (ACC) plays the leading role in the Tour assistance package. It maintains the distance between the new Audi Q7 and the vehicle ahead, and the driver can adjust the distance and the dynamics of regulation in several stages.

The system, which primarliy uses the front left radar sensors, covers the full speed range from 0 to 250 km / h. Its Stop&Go function decelerates the Audi Q7 to a standstill and allows it to start again automatically at the command of the driver. When the ACC is deactivated, it shows the distance to the vehicle ahead from a speed of 60 km / h speed and warns against tailgating. The driver can set his desired distance.
The Traffic Jam Assistant
In the speed range from 0 to 65 km / h, the traffic jam assistant, another function of the adaptive cruise control, can take over the steering work on good roads, as long as there is a traffic jam. The system uses the radar sensors and the video camera. It leads the car using gentle steering interventions and follows the vehicles ahead within the system boundaries. The traffic jam assistant is oriented by the road markings and the other vehicles on the road.

If the traffic jam assistant reaches its system boundaries - for example, when the traffic jam has dispersed or if there is a tight corner ahead, the driver must take over control of the vehicle himself. The system gives warnings in multiple stages. As a final measure, it will automatically bring the big SUV to a standstill.

The traffic jam assistant provides as comfortable and natural as possible a drive in traffic jams.

Audi pre sense front
The safety system Audi pre sense front is on board together with the adaptive cruise control. It aids in avoiding rear-end collisions and minimizing their consequences. In a dangerous situation, the system prompts the driver to brake using a differentiated warning concept - with visual and audible signals as well as a brake jerk. If the driver does not react, firstly a partial delay will take place followed by a full delay - provided that the vehicle in front is moving. The system also tightens the seatbelts and initiates the pre sense basic measures. Audi pre sense front is functional even when the adaptive cruise control is switched off.
The Predictive Efficiency Assistant
The predictive efficiency assistant is another pioneering system belonging to the Tour assistance package. It works in close coordination with the adaptive cruise control, MMI navigation plus and the camera-based traffic sign recognition (also possible to order separately.) It automatically matches the preselected speed to the following conditions - the route topography, speed limits and the vehicles ahead.

The predictive efficiency assistant uses - also when the route guidance is inactive - the route data to alert the driver in situations where he should slow down. It is able to recognize curves, roundabouts and intersections, gradient sections, localities or speed limit signs - in many cases long before the driver sees them. A corresponding message will then appear on the combination instrument or in the Audi virtual cockpit. Differentiated graphics can be seen if the assistance screen is active.

If the driver desires, the system can regulate the freewheel of the eight-speed tiptronic under certain boundary conditions (in terms of speed and accelerator pedal gradient), and the new Audi Q7 then runs to the speed restriction in neutral. The coasting mode is only activated if this will take several seconds. Once it has finsihed, the SUV will automatically accelerate again at the desired selected speed, provided that the ACC is activated.

With this highly networked intelligence, the predictive efficiency assistant has the potential to reduce fuel consumption by up to ten percent on country roads.
Other systems
Audi active lane assist, a further system of the Tour assistance package, can help the driver to stay in lane at speeds of 65 km / h and above. It observes the lines on the road using a video camera and also uses additional data. When the new Audi Q7 approcahes a road marking without indicating, the system helps the driver to stay on track using a gentle intervention in the electromechanical power steering.

The driver can choose whether he wants to be supported continuously or just for a short period before crossing the lane marking. If he opts for the early intervention, the system will lead him into the centre of the lane. In addition, there is an adjustable steering wheel vibration. The Audi active lane assist is also available separately.

The swerve assistant and the turning assistant complement the Tour assistance package. The swerve assistant supports the driver when the new Q7 has to drive around an obstacle in order to avoid an accident. Using data from video camera and radar sensors, it calculates a suitable path immediately, taking into account the spacing, width and offset of the vehicle in front. The first action is a warning jolt, which alerts the driver to the danger. If the driver then turns, the system helps him to control the drive around the obstacle using a torque intervention in the power steering.

The turning assistant monitors oncoming traffic when turning left at a low speed. In a dangerous situation, it will slow the Q7 to a standstill. This intervention causes the Audi Q7 to remain in the same lane. The system is active at speeds of between two and ten km / h when the driver activates the turn signal to turn left.

Parking Assistance Package

This includes the parking assist system (also available separately), which almost automatically directs the new Audi Q7 using twelve ultrasonic sensors for parallel and perpendicular parking spaces and also when exiting parallel parking spaces. In addition, the package includes surrounding cameras. They display different views from the direct surroundings of the car on the MMI monitor, including a virtual top view and 180-degree images of the front and rear. These are very useful when navigating unclear exits or also from behind in combination with the intersection assistants.
